Welcome to In The News. We are a free political podcast that covers politics, culture and current events. We don't cover political news from the point of view of liberal or conservative, Republican or Democratic ideologies. Rather we are a source of political news and commentary from the Independent point of view. We aim to educate listeners on the issues of the day by giving background on the topics and explaining how the political debate of the nation stands to impact our daily lives.

Donald Trump is receiving feedback from his voters on some of his potential cabinet picks but it’s not all positive. Are some of his candidates putting him on a collision course with his base, and if so, how does he navigate that? We also discuss the death of Cuban leader Fidel Castro and how some in the world community seem to have forgotten just how harsh of a dictator he was.

Health care cost inflation in the US is at the lowest rate in 50 years. So Obamacare is the greatest thing since sliced bread, right? Well, not exactly. In this episode we discuss why there may be signs of trouble on the horizon for Obamacare and why the fight over the law may be one of the bigger political battles in the coming year in Washington, DC.

The US spends roughly $600 billion a year on national security. More than the next 7 countries combined. Most Americans would be surprised to learn how much of that funding goes to waste yet are loathe to cut the defense budget or hold the Pentagon to a strict accounting. Can you advocate for cuts in Defense and still be tough on national security? We attempt to answer in today’s episode.

50,000 emails belonging to Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta were recently hacked and are being released to the public, a batch at a time, every day until Election Day on Nov. 8. Just as interesting, if not more, than what’s in the emails is who is behind their release. In this episode we discuss recent cyber attacks against the Clinton campaign and why it seems that an old conflict has been rekindled.
